Here’s a Little Introduction

Hello, here’s a little introduction into who I am and what I’m about.

You may call me Asterie. I’m a tarot reader of 10 years and avid collector of divination tools and creator of Kismet Flame. I fell in love with tarot when I was in college, and I’ve continued to expand my knowledge of divination ever since. It’s been my gateway to the occult and interesting esoterica.

I’ve been an occult enthusiast since childhood however. My mother would tell me my astrology sign and horoscope when I would come home from elementary school and I would tell my friends what their signs would mean, too. I guess you could say astrology was my gateway, but like a lot of horoscope readers, it didn’t really spark more curiosity to go beyond my own birth chart. Using tarot felt like giving myself permission to dabble a bit more into occult practices, symbolism and history. It added a lot more depth to my astrology knowledge as well.

My Philosophy on Tarot

Tarot, for me, is a tool for introspection, self-development and guidance. When you read tarot cards, the answers you receive reflect your point of view. Therefore, your dialogue with yourself is also reflected in the cards. When I’m reading tarot for myself, I check-in with my inner dialogue and how it’s functioning.

Moreover, even though it’s funny to think that my decks has their own personality (like calling me out on my crappy habits for the nth time), I don’t anthropomorphize my cards. They’re just printed cardstock. The power comes from the reader and the querent, who is the sole weaver of their fate.

If you gave every tarot reader the exact same spread with the exact same tarot deck, I’m very sure each one will interpret those set of cards differently. Some can get psychological, some much more practical, while others can get hella woo-woo. I like to be somewhere in the middle of that Venn-diagram. There’s a time and place for every perspective, I believe. I will say I do take a more intuitive approach, but I can say that now after studying my butt off in the beginning. The imagery and symbolism in tarot can tell a rich story, and interpreting the combination of these symbols can provide us with the ability to change our perspective and write a different story, if we so choose.

What’s this blog about anyway?

Kismet Flame is a blog about all things divination and creativity! So yes, tarot, but also lenormand, oracle decks and more. I don’t want to get too definitive yet since I’m still trying to figure out what I want to talk about myself, but I would like this blog to be an insightful place for all diviners and lovers of woo and weird.

Stay tuned.
